To maintain our commitment to providing the sublime, the ridiculous and the extraordinary, our awesome baristas combine a number of skills to ensure that every single customer receives the highest quality product, and has the best possible experience.

Customer focus

Good customer service is friendly, respectful and engaging. Our baristas are there to educate, assist and provide outstanding coffee and customer service. There is no ego and no attitude, and each customer is treated with the utmost care.

Coffee knowledge

Our baristas know details about your coffee that help them to ensure you get the best cup each and every time. This includes information about what type of coffee is best suited to your needs as well as details about varietals, region and process-method.

Technical skill

Maintaining a high level of technical skill is imperative in ensuring that the love and dedication of the growers and roasters is maximised in that final cup of coffee. Our baristas combine an understanding of how the various bits of equipment work, brewing methods, and extraction techniques, to allow the coffee to reach its full potential.

Product knowledge

Our FOH team know their stuff, whether it be the ingredients in a specific menu item or the tasting notes for the single origin coffee, they need to be able to tell the customer what they need to know in a confident and humble manner, with no ego or arrogance.

Teamwork

The effective combination of effective communication, problem resolution, trust and respect, results in an amazing synergy where smooth and efficient customer service is the norm. Being able to flexibly adapt your skills based on the team that you’re working with and the role that you’re performing is integral to ensuring that you support others in the team and that they support you.

Presentation

We pride ourselves on the job we do, and this includes how we look. We like to keep things casual, but that doesn’t mean sloppy. Keeping our presentation clean, neat and tidy at all times means we’re always on our A game.

At Code Black our menus are developed based on seasonal availability and with a focus on using locally sourced products as much as possible.

Ability to work under pressure

Our kitchens are dynamic, fast-paced environments where you need to be organised, efficient and willing to jump in and do what needs to be done to get that plate of food out to the customer looking great, tasting awesome, and in an appropriate amount of time.

If you doubt your cleanliness, hygiene, or food safety, then we aren’t the place for you. Cleanliness takes precedence over everything and you need to be aware of the factors which can impact on the kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards.

Our dynamic office team support and drive the business from behind the scenes and do so with considerable in-depth knowledge of Code Black and the hospo industry in general.

The Code Black office team includes roles such as operations manager, accountant, finance manager, HR manager, sales rep, account manager and social media manager. It is the knowledge, expertise and understanding of why we do things the way we do that enables us to keep pushing forward and striving for the sublime.

Industry knowledge

Our office team includes a varied collection of roles but everyone has a background in hospo and understands the intricacies and quirks of the industry. This means they are able to respond confidently and effectively as different situations arise.

Organisation

Ensuring a solid foundation for the business is what enables growth and development and maintaining a high level of organisation, structure and clear processes is fundamental to ensuring the business operates smoothly.

Leadership

Being able to step up, set a good example, get your hands dirty and lead from the front is what it's all about. Our leadership team is hands-on and we have very little hierarchy and definitely no ego. Any leader is only as good as the team that they lead so the ability to support, guide and motivate is crucial.

To maintain our commitment to providing all things roasted, our team in the Roastery work in conjunction with all coffee professionals; from business owners and baristas to growers and distributors.

In the Code Black roastery, our goal is to produce not only the best possible roasted coffee, but also provide customer service and business support. With the help of state-of-the-art equipment and dedication to quality, we transform green beans into the exceptional coffee that we represent. Every step of the roasting, packaging and distribution process is handled with passion and dedication to ensure that each customer is satisfied, and ultimately has the best possible experience with Code Black.

Skills

Our roastery and warehouse team have extensive knowledge in both quality green and roasted coffee. These skills combined with technical knowledge of café operations and equipment ensures that everything is done to the highest and most efficient standard.

Customer service

Good customer service is friendly, dependable and prompt. Our roastery staff and account managers are there to educate, assist and provide outstanding products. Each of our customers are treated equally and with the utmost care.

Teamwork
