Janson farms is a family owned operation, established in 1941, originally a cattle farm begun by Carl Axel Janson. His four sons Michael, Carl, Ricardo and Peter eventually took over the farm and established Janson Coffee in 1989.
Janson farms comprises two coffee plantations - located on the Talamanca Mountain Range on the slopes of Tisingal & Baru volcanoes; Hacienda las Lagunas & Hacienda Los Alpes.Between the two farms there are 100 hectares of coffee planted with Gesha, Caturra, Catuai and Pacamara varietals.
Sustainability is at the forefront of production. 400 solar panels power the farms with all excess matter from processing reused as fuel or fertiliser. Seeds from the forests are cultivated in the farm nursery for reforestation & protection of water resources. Water from natural springs are used for wet processing. The onsite processing plant was designed exclusively for specialty coffee.
Lot 130 is a natural processed lot. The cherries were placed on the patio to begin the sun drying process for 2 days; then placed in a shaded holding stage for 2 more days. The drying process was then completed across 10 more days in mechanical dryers.
